NAIRN AND SMITH SINGLED OUT AS CHAMPIONS

Lynn Smith and Chris Nairn claimed the ladies and mens draw in the 2011 WS NSW Singles Classic.

Rosehill Bowling Club hosted the second 2011 WS NSW Singles Classic from 27-29 March. The event is an initiative to provide increased competitive opportunities for NSW bowlers with a disability. Despite intermittent rain breaks, nothing would hold back the high quality bowls on display.

Many of the high quality bowlers were on show in both the mens and ladies draw including Henry Ryan and Joanne Hunter. Both bowlers had recently represented NSW at the Australian Open AWD event in Darebin.

If any of the spectators on hand had any questions about the quality and depth of bowlers in NSW, their doubts would surely be eased after this event. The final in the ladies draw pitted Carolyn Nelson against Lynn Smith in what was a close encounter with Lynn Smith prevailing. Joanne Hunter picked up a Bronze medal against Joy Boyd.

In the mens draw, both the finals were hotly contested and both went into a tie-break end after 18 ends. Following the 19th and final end, Chris Nairn out-played Michael Vassallo to claim Gold while Gilbert Hicks defeated Mark Whiteman 15-14 for the Bronze medal.
