WHAT IS IT?

A twenty minute presentation at your school, on road safety, disability awareness or physical activity and sport, by one of our presenters who lives with a disability, followed by a 40 minute game of Wheelchair Basketball or Wheelchair AFL, played by the students. This provides the students a chance to experience something new, as well as giving them an idea of what it is like to be in a wheelchair.

WHERE?

We’ll come to you. Just make sure you have an accessible undercover basketball court, multipurpose area, hall, or quadrangle.

TAMWORTH SCHOOLS: Our experiences are held at Tamworth Dome. Please call Catherine on 0429 922 108 to discuss availability.

SESSION SIZE?

We recommend groups of 20-25 per session as this maximises the time the students can experience playing sport in a wheelchair. We bring 10 wheelchairs with us on the day, and have portable hoops if you need them. If you have more than 25 students per session, please email us to discuss other options for your school.

TOTAL SESSION TIME?

Each session is one hour, with a minimum booking of two hours at your school. We are happy to work in with your school timetable. You need to factor recess and lunch times around the one-hour sessions. Teacher supervision is compulsory at all times.

SCHOOL TESTIMONIALS

"This was an excellent educational incursion tied win with our Yr10 driver safety unit of work. Our students loved the opportunity to play wheelchair basketball even having a staff vs students game at recess for the school to watch." - De La Salle, Caringbah

"Rick provided an amazing opportunity for MHS. It was the first time they had participated in wheelchair sports and it linked directly to the sport for specific groups unit in PASS. All feedback from students has been positive and the final group of the day wish they had more time or could do it again." - Muswellbrook High School, Muswellbrook

"Brendon has been visiting our school to run the Wheelchair Roadshow for over 10 years now - and every year the students have a memorable, educational and extremely enjoyable experience as they play basketball in the wheelchairs provided. Brendan delivers the content and his own experiences in a calm, confident and relational manner. He shares the stories of his life and others whose lives are so positively impacted by being able to play Wheelchair Basketball. That's a fabulous recommendation for any school or group to hear.." - Covenant Christian School, Belrose

"Our school, being a country school have never had this experience and they loved it! Thank you for including the country kids that are so often forgotten for these types of experiences" Warialda High, Warialda

"Stephan come out to our boys high school, Marist College Eastwood, to facilitate wheelchair basketball for 3x Yr9 PASS classes. Stephan was incredible from start to finish. As Acting PDHPE Coordinator, this is my first time organising and also experiencing the excursion/event. As such, I wanted to pass on my sincere thanks to the team and Stephan in particular. The boys had a great time, with Stephan organised, very clear in instruction, regarding: how to use the chairs, what was happening and also addressing disability."Marist College, Eastwood
